Craft beer lovers in the United States are making craft beer their own in droves.
A wave of craft beer startups are popping up, with craft breweries such as Stone Brewing Co. and Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., among others, expanding their portfolios.
The popularity of craft brewing is also fueled by the growth of online retailers such as CraftBeer.com and TapHouse.
Now, the beer-centric market is expanding as well.
Craft beer is more than a hobby — it’s an industry.
Here’s what you need to know about the craft beer boom.
The craft beer industry has a huge impact on the nation’s economy, said Jason Dittmar, chief executive of Craft Beer Marketing and Communications, a Washington-based industry trade group.
There’s a lot of money in the industry.
The number of craft breweries in the U.S. has more than tripled since 2009, to 717, according to Brewers Association data.
In 2018, the craft market grew by about 5% to $2.7 billion, according the Brewers Association.
In 2017, it grew by more than 10% to more than $1.5 billion.
Craft breweries have been popping up all over the country, including in the Midwest, the Northeast and in the South.
The trend is fueled in part by the popularity of online stores like CraftBeer and Taphouse.
The breweries have become the go-to place for consumers to shop for beer, Dittmas said.
Craftsman is a beer brand that focuses on craft brewing, and it is expanding in the Southeast and the Southwest, he said.
The brewery in Phoenix, Ariz., is also looking to expand into the Southwest and Midwest.
The trend is driven by a changing consumer base, said Dittma.
People want to drink something different.
And the more people can drink different things, the more craft beer is going to become a staple of the market, he added.
Craft beers are increasingly popular among millennials, said John Schoenbaum, chief economist at the Brewers association.
They have a greater awareness of what a good beer is.
People like to be able to taste different types of beers and the quality and craft beer, which is more of a craft beer that’s not going to be something that is going on a regular basis, he told CNNMoney.
